Matching emissions sources to sinks as a part of country level screening
Several governments have recognised the need for CCS to meet the Paris Agreement but are yet to develop licensing and permit procedures and processes.
Client Need:
A client wished to learn about the success and failure of Carbon Capture and Storage Projects and those working with new technologies. They wanted to undertake a country level screening to identify CO2 emitters and storage to take to the government for approval.
Description of services provided by ERCE staff:
ERCE was engaged to educate the client on global CCS developments, identify CO2 emitters and undertake a CO2 storage screening exercise at country level.
ERCE prepared a slide deck on carbon capture and storage, providing an overview of projects and progress globally, using publicly available data and our interpretation of it. Typical topics covered include the following:
• CCS projects that are working/successful.
• CCS projects that have failed including Gorgon.
• CCS projects associated with hydrogen.
The deck will be suitable for management, investor, and other stakeholder discussions.
Outcome:
A storage site and emitters were identified. The client is in discussions with the government for approval to proceed with detailed technical studies.
