Simulation of CO2 injection into a depleted oil reservoir for long term storage
In the 2012-2014 timeframe, the UK government held a £1 billion competition for financial support of a CCUS site.
Client Need:
Our client asked us to complete a full-scale study of a depleted oilfield, as part of an internal decision on whether to use a depleted oilfield or aquifer as part of their application to a UK government competition.
Description of services provided by ERCE staff:
ERCE created a high-resolution 3D model of the reservoir in Petrel. We then completed a history match of the field and forward simulation under CO2 injection conditions, in Eclipse E300. Work included slim tube modelling and uncertainty modelling.
Outcome:
A technical report was submitted to the client.
