Problem:

The structural complexity in an onshore thrust tectonics setting is often associated with poor data and requires a comprehensive multi-disciplinary approach. The client had a small in-house technical team and desired an integrated study to explore deeper prospectivity.

Solution:

ERCE carried out a detailed analysis of all wells in the block to understand lithologies, repeated stratigraphy, fracture parameters, and pore-pressure changes. An extensive literature review and geological surface evaluation was undertaken to understand the detailed tectono-stratigraphy and to build the framework for a structural model in MOVE software. We interpreted several regional 2D seismic lines and a 3D seismic survey.

We also worked closely with the client’s team and a national oil company to incorporate their in-depth knowledge and experience in the region.

All these data were pulled together and integrated to construct multiple balanced structural cross-sections that not only explained the well results at shallow depth but also developed models for sub-thrust prospects.

Part of this study was presented at the conference ‘The Geology of Fractured Reservoirs’ at the Geological Society of London in 2018.
