Simulation modelling of a Lithium Brine reservoir to understand injection and mixing effects.
Electrification and energy storage are two critical challenges on the path to global Net Zero. Lithium is a critical element in that journey. Lithium Brine development is an area of increasing interest, in terms of generating new supplies.
A lithium brine Operator was in discussions with a regulator regarding brine reinjection and the benefits to operations. They wanted to use numerical simulation to communicate the importance of reinjection.
ERCE were asked to build a scoping simulation model of the reservoir to investigate the impacts of reinjecting produced water, once lithium has been extracted.
Our work provided insight on the importance of injector producer patterns and spacing, pressure maintenance and dilution effects over time.
